Haskayne School of Business

Environmental graphics

A bold and beautiful mind map of entrepreneurship at Haskayne.

Entrepreneurial mural

Installed in one of Haskayne’s study spaces, the mural uses radial lines of text, photography, and colour to tell the story of entrepreneurship at the school – bold from a distance, rewarding in detail up close.

Challenge

The Haskayne School of Business wanted a way to visually celebrate its deep commitment to entrepreneurship. From world-class programs like Creative Destruction Lab – Rockies to a wide range of initiatives and success stories, there is a rich ecosystem to showcase.

The Haskayne School of Business wanted a way to visually celebrate its deep commitment to entrepreneurship. From world-class programs like Creative Destruction Lab – Rockies to a wide range of initiatives and success stories, there is a rich ecosystem to showcase. But instead of listing facts or stats, the goal was to create something more creative: a mural that sparks curiosity, rewards close looking, and invites viewers into Haskayne’s entrepreneurial story.

The mural needed to be on brand, visually engaging, and designed to stand the test of time in a high-traffic student space. It had to speak to many audiences at once – from students and faculty to campus visitors and prospective donors – and do so in a way that felt both clear and imaginative.

Result

Atom Studio designed and installed a 42-foot mural that maps the entrepreneurial landscape at Haskayne. Incorporating large connected type, with an overlay of more detailed layers, the mural uses sun-like lines of connected content to reflect how programs, people, and impact all radiate from Haskayne’s core values.

Photos, stats, and key phrases are woven into the piece with subtle transparency, vibrant colour, and a thoughtful sense of hierarchy. Up close, viewers can see course names, research centres, and accomplishments. From afar, the mural draws the eye with the bold typography of the word ‘entrepreneurial’ and an energetic layout. It creates a dynamic and welcoming atmosphere in the study space, while telling a story of entrepreneurship that is uniquely Haskayne.

The design was carefully refined in collaboration with the Dean and other key stakeholders, with a strong focus on gender representation, photo selection, and visual balance. The result was met with enthusiasm and pride from faculty and staff at a major school-wide unveiling.
