Atom’s premium packaging design elevates a honey brand from grassroots to giftable.


Challenge

Three Foragers produces small-batch natural honey with innovative flavors like lemon ginger and chai. Their original packaging didn’t match their premium product, and there was no visual consistency between their flavoured varieties and signature creamed honey – making them look like products from different companies.



In retail environments dominated by black and yellow honey packaging, Three Foragers needed a distinctive design system that could unite their product line while justifying premium pricing in an increasingly challenging market for honey producers.

These challenges were further intensified by the fact that environmental factors had reduced overall honey yields. For a small business operating in these conditions, choosing the right visual brand identity and packaging were high stakes choices. They needed to get it right.

Result

Through exhaustive design exploration, Atom developed a cohesive visual system that elevated the brand while maintaining its artisanal character.

The team refined Three Foragers’ existing bee logo and strengthened the typography, replacing abstract product names with clear, descriptive ones that immediately communicate each variety’s unique flavors.


A distinctive colour palette now differentiates Three Foragers from competitors – using their signature purple for creamed honey and complementary colors for flavoured varieties. Textured, handcrafted illustrations reflect the products’ small-batch nature, while maintaining premium appeal. As a result, they were able to elevate their brand and overall price points, even in a crowded market.

Package design

An exhaustive exploration process spanned colours, typography, and illustrations. We went through dozens of options to find colors that would stand apart from typical honey packaging while still feeling organic and premium. The typography underwent similar rigorous development, with careful consideration of hierarchy and readability. For the illustrations, we combined different techniques – from scanned natural elements to hand-drawn components – to achieve a consistent handmade quality across all varieties.
